Education

The Robinson Education Center is a fully licensed Chapter 766 approved school offering a curriculum for students who are working at or below grade level, as well as students who require specialized instruction due to specific learning disabilities. The REC provides an educational environment similar to a public school but smaller in scale, with a 1:3 staff-to-student ratio. In this highly structured, supportive environment, students are helped to improve their academic skills and develop more appropriate behavioral controls. Our curriculum follows the standards as set forth by the Massachusetts Department of Education. The course of study includes Language Arts, Mathematics, Reading, Science, Social Studies, Art and Physical Education. As part of our curriculum, we offer a variety of Pre-Vocational programming that includes Woodworking, Computer Technology and Buildings and Grounds Maintenance. Additional programs such as Skill Streaming, Career Planning and Life Skills focus on teaching students the necessary strategies to enable a successful transition into the community. Stetson works closely with each public school to insure that our curriculum complies with their requirements.  A highly trained staff of nurses, clinicians, and case managers who are available for immediate consultation supports the education center. The REC provides a diverse environment that is safe, respectful and promotes the highest standards of learning.

Academic Calendar/Year
Stetson School's Education Center runs on a 216-day school year. This non-traditional length school year allows flexibility with course scheduling, staff training and summer school course programming. The Stetson academic calendar is sent out to all parents/guardians and sending school districts at the beginning of each academic year.

Student Progress
Progress reports are issued to students halfway through each marking period. Report cards are issued four times a year. These reports contain information on the student's behavior and progress. Copies of these reports are placed in the student's central file, and sent to the student's school district and the parents/guardians. Weekly progress reports are available upon request. All state mandated testing is available as well as PSAT's and SATs.

Individual Education Plan (IEP)
Annual IEP meetings are an essential part of the educational process. These meetings are a forum to discuss the progress and academic programming for each student. The goal of the IEP meeting is to develop an educational plan specifically tailored to meet the individual needs of the student. The IEP is complimented by a quarterly Individual Service Plan review of the student's progress.
