Consultation, Program Development, and Training
Stetson School specializes in the assessment and treatment of sexually reactive children, sexually abusive adolescents, and other sexually troubled and inappropriate behavior in children and adolescents, including the provision of such services to cognitively lower functioning children, adolescents, and young adults, and the development of assessment and treatment related materials and instruments.
Stetson School is able to provide supportive and developmental services to state, court, and private provider agencies at three primary levels: (i) consultation, training, and supervision, (ii) program development and administration, and (iii) the delivery of treatment services.
Consultation, Training, and Supervision Stetson is available for consultation to state agencies, court services, and private provider agencies and organizations that wish to develop or further develop specialized assessment and/or treatment services for sexually abusive and sexually troubled youth, including program development and the development of skills in specialized risk evaluation and clinical treatment. Stetson additionally provides training in these specialized areas, customized to meet the needs of individual authorities and agencies, as well as consultation, training, and supervision for staff providing such services.
Consultation and training will always be customized to meet individual needs and includes, but is not limited to, program design, the design and application of program and treatment instrumentation and materials, staff training in specialized areas, and staff development and supervision in order to develop the skills and treatment delivery capacity of programs at the level of individual clinicians in the actual and direct provision of specialized assessment and treatment services aimed at sexually abusive or troubled behavior.
Partnership in Program Development In addition to serving as a consultant and/or trainer, Stetson School is also available to work with state, court, or private agencies for on-site program development and operation. In this case, Stetson School will work with partner agencies to help develop and implement relevant aspects of the treatment program and its administration, including the development and application of relevant treatment materials. An additional option involves Stetson School directly providing such services for the provider agency on an on-going basis as a sub-contractor.
Partnership in the Delivery of Treatment Services Stetson School is also available to work with agencies in the development and direct provision of treatment services. One option includes Stetson School developing and implementing relevant aspects of the treatment program while providing direct treatment services for a set period of time while training and supervising agency staff who will eventually assume these duties and tasks, as Stetson School's relationship with the agency concludes. Rather than developing agency staff to eventually assume responsibility for providing such services, an additional option involves Stetson School directly providing these services for the provider agency as a sub-contractor.
Presentations and Training The needs of individual agencies will always determine Stetson School's approach to individualized consultation and training, but in many cases will be provided by Phil Rich, Stetson School's Director of Clinical Program Development.
Dr. Rich has authored several well-known books that address the assessment and treatment of sexually abusive youth (click here for an overview of these publications – link to "reading materials" page), as well as chapters in edited books and journal articles, and presents and trains nationally and internationally. As noted, presentations and training can be tailored to meet the needs of almost any group, but include topics such as:
- Risk assessment and comprehensive evaluation of sexually abusive youth
- Comprehensive guide to the treatment of sexually abusive and troubled youth
- Individual, group, and family therapy
- Working with developmentally delayed juvenile sexual abusers
- Working with sexually reactive children
- Working with direct care staff in the treatment of sexually abusive youth
- Forensic mental health
- Family reunification
- Disordered attachment and attachment difficulties
- The nature, role, and influence of trauma- and attachment-related models in the treatment of sexually abusive youth
